Interview with Peter Watson-Wailes

Machine-learning and artificial intelligence will have a profound impact on many aspects of our daily lives. This presents many opportunities as well as new challenges for content creators and marketers. Peter Watson-Wailes will provide insights to how machine-learning and AI are being used in other industries, and how these new technologies can be utilised in destination marketing. This is one of the most intriguing sessions in the STS Ravenna programme so we decided to have a chat with Peter:

What made you want to be part of the Social Travel Summit?

It’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with travel marketers and influencers from around the world. Travel marketing and destination marketing in particular is one of the most exciting areas with regards to brand storytelling right now, and it’s a privilege to be able to come and share some of what we’ve been seeing with the attendees there.

What will you be speaking about?

I’ll be speaking on brand storytelling and how it’s being influenced by machine learning and AI tooling. We’ll be looking at a bit of broader context as to how it’s being used in other industries and what’s happening as a result of it, and how destination marketers and influencers can both make use of the data being created by people using them to get tangible value for improving brand metrics.


What at STS are you most looking forward to?

I’m most looking forward to networking and meeting other people. I’ve always loved the social side of conferences and seeing what else people are doing, and hearing their stories.
